Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

About People to People
People to People (P2P) is a non-profit organization that was created to fight the mounting devastation caused by HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, with a special focus on Ethiopia. As part of P2P’s work, children orphaned by HIV/AIDS are engaged in care and support initiatives. P2P is involved in capacity building, training, study, hospice care and home-based care services for AIDS patients. Through the creative use of drama by well-known Ethiopian theater actors, P2P provides training in HIV/AIDS education and prevention for AIDS awareness groups in high schools.  P2P also publishes a biannual academic journal about HIV/AIDS, the first of its kind in Africa.

No War Zone at the People to People Youth Centre
The No War Zone Centre in Addis Ababa provides support to youth who have been affected by war and HIV/AIDS, through skills training and education in human rights, peace building and conflict resolution as well as project management and team building. Many of the youth participants are heads of households supporting their younger siblings and cousins.  It is extremely important for these youth to receive skills training that will enable them to earn a living and grow into self-reliant adults.  A local collage accredits the skills training acquired through the NWZ project and each student receives a work placement at the end of the training.

Youth meet at the centre on a regular basis to receive HIV/AIDS prevention and education, and discuss constructive solutions to the problems they face. With the support of staff at the No War Zone Centre, young people are establishing peer-support groups and working together to improve their situation.

The No War Zone project gives young people in Ethiopia a chance to interact with young people around the world, share their experiences and learn from others. No War Zone is an opportunity for them to learn about world issues and generate support for themselves by building community development projects in collaboration with other No War Zone members.
