Safety and Privacy for Youth

The No War Zone site is a great place for you to learn, share and discuss issues with other young people. But the Internet is not always a safe place—so here are some tips for you to read that will help you protect your personal information.

1) Don’t give out any personal information without asking your parents, teacher or another adult. Personal information that you should not give out includes: your full name, address, phone number, e-mail address, age, names of family members, and the name of your teacher or friends .

2) If you come across anything on the site that makes you uncomfortable or if you get a message that is rude, mean or asks for personal information, make sure you discuss it with an adult. Please also notify War Child Canada by e-mailing info@nowarzone.org

3) War Child Canada pre-screens some but not all of the content submitted by users to the website. If content is not appropriate, we may refuse or remove it.

4) Never agree to meet with anyone you met “online” without first consulting with War Child Canada.

5) Never send a picture of yourself over the Internet without checking with your parents, teacher or another adult.

6) When you participate in a chat or post discussion messages, never give away your personal information.

7) Never share your password with anyone. Your password is the key to your personal information and you will be responsible for anything posted using your username and password. If you find that someone has gained access to your password please notify War Child Canada immediately by e-mailing info@nowarzone.org

The Security of your personal information:

1) War Child Canada will not sell, rent, share or in any way make your personal information available to any outside parties without your explicit consent.

2) War Child Canada is not responsible or liable for any actions or damages that may occur while you are using the website.

3) Be aware that whenever you submit work, including (art, poetry, writing or photos) to the No War Zone website it is available for any website browsers to see.

4) Remember that No War Zone does contain links to other sites, however, War Child Canada does not endorse and has no control over your privacy and safety when visiting these other sites.

5) You are responsible for your own conduct on the site and are responsible for respecting the conditions of use detailed in the Terms of Use section. Please remember that anything you do or say on No War Zone will directly impact the lives of the other members of the No War Zone online community.

1. Coverage

This privacy policy covers the treatment of personal information collected by War Child Canada when you are on the No War Zone site.

2. Collecting your Personal Information

War Child Canada collects personal information upon registration as a No War Zone member. When you register as a member of No War Zone, we ask for your name, e-mail address, country, age, and gender as well as other optional information. We assure that your Last name, address, e-mail and age remain confidential and can be viewed only by War Child Canada staff. By registering you agree and consent that your personal and non-personal information becomes the property of War Child Canada. War Child Canada uses information for the general purpose of communication.
You also agree that when you voluntarily disclose information on the discussion boards or in the various areas of our website, your personal and other information disclosed in your communication shall become public information and can be collected and used by outside parties. Such activities are beyond the control of War Child Canada.

3. Security of your personal information

Other than as indicated above, we do not sell, rent, share or in any way make available your personal information to any outside parties.
You also have an important role to play in protecting your information. No one else may access your personal information without knowing your username and password. Thus we strongly urge you not to share your username or password with anyone. We also caution you to not share your personal information with others during discussions or chats online.
Your privacy, as a visitor to any of the No War Zone Website, is important to us. It is our wish to provide you with a secure and highly satisfactory experience each time you visit our website.

1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to No War Zone, a War Child Canada initiative. War Child Canada provides this service to you, subject to the following terms of service, which may be updated by War Child Canada without notice to you.

2. Description of Services

No War Zone provides its users with access to a wide variety of resources including various communications tools, collections of artistic and academic expressions, forums, teacher resources, project management skills and content through its web site (collectively the “services”). Any updates or additions to the “services” are also subject to the terms of use.

3. Member account, password and security

Upon completing the registration process of No War Zone you must select a username and password. It is your responsibility to maintain the confidentiality of your password, and you are fully responsible for all activities that occur under your password. It is your responsibility to notify War Child Canada immediately of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security.

4. Member Conduct

All information, text, music, video, photographs, messages or other materials, whether transmitted privately or posted on the site, are the sole responsibility of the person from which it originated. This means that you are responsible for all content that you post, e-mail, upload, transmit or otherwise make available. You understand that by using the No War Zone website you may be exposed to content that is offensive, indecent or objectionable. War Child Canada is under no circumstances responsible for the content.

As a condition of your use of the website, you will NOT:

1. Use the services in connection with surveys, chain letters, junk e-mail, spamming or any other unsolicited messages.

2. Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, pornographic, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another’s privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable.

3. Harm other members in any way;

4. Impersonate any person or entity;

5. Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright or other proprietary rights of any party;

6. Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any unsolicited or unauthorized advertising, promotional materials, mail, spam, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or any other form of solicitation;

7. Upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any material that contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment;

8. Interfere with or disrupt the service or servers or networks connected to the service, or disobey any requirements, procedures policies or regulations of networks connected to the service;

9. Intentionally or unintentionally violate any applicable local, state, national or international law;

10. “Stalk” or otherwise harass another member; or

11. Collect or store personal data about other users without explicit permission.

You acknowledge that War Child Canada will pre-screen some but not all of the content of No War Zone. War Child Canada and its designees reserve the right to refuse or remove any content that is available via the service which violates these Terms of Use or is otherwise objectionable.

You agree that you must evaluate, and bear all risks associated with, the use of any content, including any reliance on accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of such content.

You acknowledge and agree that War Child Canada may preserve content and may also disclose content if required to do so by law.

5. International Use

Recognizing the global nature of the Internet, you agree to comply with all local rules regarding online conduct and acceptable content. Specifically, you agree to comply with all applicable laws regarding the transmission of technical data exported from Canada or the country in which you reside.

6. Materials submitted or made available for inclusion on the service

War Child Canada does not claim ownership of Content you submit or make available for inclusion on the Service. However, with respect to Content you submit or make available for inclusion on publicly accessible areas of the Service, you grant War Child Canada the following worldwide, royalty free and non-exclusive license, as applicable:

With respect to Content (including photos, graphics, audio or video) you submit or make available for inclusion on publicly accessible areas of the Service, the perpetual, irrevocable and fully sub licensable license to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, publicly perform and publicly display such Content (in whole or in part) and to incorporate such Content into other works in any format or medium now known or later developed.

The No War Zone website may provide, or third parties may provide, links to other World Wide Web sites or resources. Since War Child Canada has no control over such sites and resources, you acknowledge and agree that War Child Canada is not responsible for the availability of such external sites or resources, and does not endorse and is not responsible or liable for any Content, advertising, products, or other materials on or available from such sites or resources. You further acknowledge and agree that War Child Canada shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with use of or reliance on any such Content, goods or services available on or through any such site or resource.

8. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold War Child Canada, and its partners, and employees, harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of Content you submit, post, transmit or make available through the Service, your use of the Service, your connection to the Service, your violation of these terms of service, or your violation of any rights of another.

9. General Information

These Terms of Service constitute the entire agreement between you and War Child Canada, and govern your use of the Service, superceding any prior agreements between you and War Child Canada. You also may be subject to additional terms and conditions that may apply when you use affiliate services, third-party content or third-party software. The laws of the Province of Ontario shall govern the Terms of Use and the relationship between you and War Child Canada. You and War Child Canada agree to submit to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located within the City of Toronto, Ontario. The failure of War Child Canada to exercise or enforce any right or provision of the Terms of Use shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision. If any provision of the Terms of Use is found by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, the parties nevertheless agree that the court should endeavor to give effect to the parties' intentions as reflected in the provision, and the other provisions of the Terms of Use remain in full force and effect. You agree that regardless of any statute or law to the contrary, any claim or cause of action arising out of or related to use of the Service or the Terms of Use must be filed within one (1) year after such claim or cause of action arose or be forever barred.

10. Modifications to the Service

War Child Canada reserves the right at any time and from time to time to modify or discontinue, temporarily or permanently, the Service (or any part thereof) with or without notice. You agree that War Child Canada shall not be liable to you or to any third party for any modification, suspension or discontinuance of the Service.

11. Termination

You agree that War Child Canada, in its sole discretion, may terminate your password, account (or any part thereof) or use of the Service, and remove and discard any Content within the Service, for any reason, including, without limitation, for lack of use or if War Child Canada believes that you have violated or acted inconsistently with the letter or spirit of the TERMS OF USE. War Child Canada may also in its sole discretion and at any time discontinue providing the Service, or any part thereof, with or without notice. You agree that any termination of your access to the Service under any provision of this TERMS OF USE may be effected without prior notice, and acknowledge and agree that War Child Canada may immediately deactivate or delete your account and all related information in your account and/or bar any further access to the Service. Further, you agree that War Child Canada shall not be liable to you or any third-party for any termination of your access to the Service.

12. Disclaimer of warranties
You expressly agree and understand that:

1. Your use of the service is at your sole risk. The service is provided on an "As is” and "As available" basis. War Child Canada expressly disclaims all warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, including, but not limited to the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

2. War Child Canada makes no warranty that (i) The service will meet your requirements, (ii) The service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, (iii) The results that may be obtained from the use of the service will be accurate or reliable, (iv) The quality of any products, services, information, or other material purchased or obtained by you through the service will meet your expectations, and (v) any errors in the software will be corrected.

3. Any material downloaded or otherwise obtained through the use of the service is done at your own discretion and risk and that you will be solely responsible for any damage to your computer system or loss of data that results from the download of any such material.

4. No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained by you from War Child Canada or through or from the service shall create any warranty not expressly stated in the terms of use.

13. Limitation of liability

You expressly understand and agree that War Child Canada shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, including but not limited to, damages for loss of profits, goodwill use, date or other intangible losses (even if War Child Canada has been advised of the possibility of such damages resulting from: (i) the use of the inability to use the service; (ii) the cost of procurement of substitute goods and services resulting from any goods, date, information or services purchased or obtained or messages received or transactions entered into through or from the service; (iii) unauthorized access to or alteration of your transmissions or data; (iv) statements or conduct of any third party on the service; or (v) any other matter relating to the service.
