There are lots of ways that you can raise awareness within your
community about issues affecting your community.
Here are some of the many possibilities:
| Banners |
Paper, fabric, plastic and many other materials can be used
to make banners. |
| Buttons |
Create a catchy slogan and/or name for your campaign and get
those involved to wear buttons. |
| Chalking |
Use chalk to write information about upcoming events on paved
areas. |
| Clothing |
Wear your message. Use a slogan and/or logo to fashionably
publicize your campaign. |
| Debates or Panel Discussions |
Organize speakers to discuss your issue and invite your community
to
attend. |
| Info Booths |
Set up a table in your school/community to inform the public
of your campaign. Use posters, flyers, banners, stickers and
other materials to advertise your campaign and be ready to answer
questions about the issues and your activities. |
| Letter Writing |
Write letters to people in your community to inform them of
your campaign. You can also get a group together to send mass
letters to organizations and/or political figures to show your
concern for a particular issue. |
| Music |
Compose and perform a song that is informative or representative
of your issue. You can also organize a concert to raise awareness
and/or funds. |
| Posters |
Try using different shapes and sizes of paper and lots of
colour to bring attention to your event/issue. |
| Press Packets |
Prepare folders for the press with fact sheets about your
humanitarian issue, a campaign press release and any other information
you think helpful in raising awareness about your cause. |
| Stickers |
You can make stickers out of all sorts of materials and hand
them out and/or stick them on poster board around your school. |
| Theatre |
Create a play or a skit about your issue. If it is a short
skit (about 5 minutes), you can run it over and over again in
a public space to attract attention and raise awareness. |
| Video |
Make a short video production and show it to your school and/or
community organization. You can also send the video to local
media to inform them of your efforts. |
| Visual Art |
Display works of art that have a connection to the issue.
Invite members of the public to submit their own artwork. |
| Web page |
Create a web page to go along with your campaign; include
background information about the issue and your group, as well
as upcoming events and recent accomplishments. |
| Word-of-mouth |
It’s free and a great way to raise awareness in your
community. |
